Rutherford Hill Winery

Nestled high in the Eastern Hills, Rutherford Hill Winery commands a spectacular view overlooking St. Helena and the Rutherford bend of Napa Valley.

In 1976, while the rest of the world was just beginning to take notice of Napa Valley, the founders of Rutherford Hill believed that the climate and soil of the valley, similar to Pomerol, were well suited to Merlot and they were among the first to plant what has become one of Napa's premium varietals.

In 1996 Anthony Terlato and his sons Bill and John,well-known for their expertise with fine European wines and an uncompromising demand for exceptional quality purchased the property. They immediately improved the vineyards, the grape sources, and built a new winery within the winery. The improvements are most noticeable beginning with the 1999 vintage; the new style of Merlot is refined, elegant and complex. Today the wines of Rutherford Hill are truly wines of a global stature.
